frequently asked Questions

We specialize in the production of high-quality, cold-pressed walnut oils. It is important to us that the nuts we process come exclusively from Markgräflerland.

Our walnut oil is characterized by its gentle cold pressing, which optimally preserves the valuable nutrients and unique taste. We press the whole nuts, not just the kernels! This is where the unique taste and beautiful color come from.

Of course! Sign in first please. We are a small company. Not that you're standing in front of closed doors! Steinen is in the southern Black Forest, around half an hour's drive from Basel and around an hour's drive from Freiburg im Breisgau. Our area is particularly popular with bikers and motorcyclists. Combine a trip to the Black Forest with a visit to us.

Of course! This is the second pillar of our company. We have customers from the Stuttgart area who insist on being personally present when their own oil is produced. But remember that the oil is initially very dark. It needs to rest for a few days so that the cloudy substances are deposited. Then it is decanted. So you can't take your oil with you immediately after pressing.

No, we can't do that! We only own a few trees ourselves and do not have our own plantation. There are a lot of orchards in our region. We mainly process nuts from these trees. We have no influence on how farmers fertilize the meadows on which the trees grow. We not only press our own nuts, but also press walnuts on a contract basis. In order to produce organic oils we would then have to have two presses (one only for organic oils and one for conventionally produced oils). We're not set up for that.

As of January 2024, we collect approximately 75% of the walnuts that we sell as oil ourselves. We also harvest 100% of all nuts for the liqueur and the black nuts ourselves. The remaining walnuts are sourced from carefully selected producers, all of whom we know personally and whose work we value very much. This is how we ensure that the highest quality standards are met.

To preserve the freshness and flavor of our walnut oil, we recommend storing it in a cool place. Direct sunlight does not harm the oil. That's why we sell it in crystal clear bottles. Once the bottle is opened, the oil should be consumed within one to two months.

There are people who are allergic to walnuts! Normally, these people react to the bitter substances contained in the membranes around the kernel of the walnuts. In newer tree breeding these bitter substances have been bred away. We have a few young trees of this variety. If you have allergic reactions to walnuts, contact us! We can then send you some nuts to test. Our goal is to be able to offer an allergen-free walnut oil within a few years. But it's like everywhere else: pulling on the leaves doesn't make the tree grow any faster.

No! Our walnut oil is ideal for refining salads, dressings or as a topping for cold dishes. It is also very suitable for baking. However, it has a very low smoke point and is therefore not suitable for roasting or deep-frying.
